My Story
My journey started in 1997 as a Modern Foreign Languages teacher, having obtained a Bachelor's degree in French and Russian from Queen Mary, University of London. I taught a range of courses from BTEC to A levels and was a pastoral personal tutor for many years. During that time, I also became a dyslexia specialist teacher and assessor for examination access arrangements for the Joint Council of Qualifications.
Whilst working as the Head of Additional Learning Support (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) at a sixth form college and chair of the Aim Higher, London Disability Working Group, I obtained a Master's degree in Adult Diagnosis of SpLD and later became a Doctor of Education (Research) at the University of Glasgow with a specialism in ADHD, Autism and holistic human flourishing. My current job is Student Neurodiversity and Disability Manager at City St George's, University of London where I'm also co-chair of the university staff Well-being, Accessibility, Neurodiversity and Disability (WAND) Network.
I have always been involved in educational research, enhancing understanding of neurodiversity and optimizing human flourishing by taking a holistic, strength-based approach. I'm a peer reviewer for a number of academic publishers, an article author and blogger for national teacher training agencies, the NEU and am a member of the Royal Society of Arts, where I share ideas with like-minded professionals across the world.
I've been a speaker for the Westminster Education Forum, and deliver talks, training and workshops at schools, colleges, universities and various institutions across the country and internationally.
As a neuro-inclusion specialist, I work with individuals and organisations to create working environments that are inclusive and supportive of all employees. By developing policies and strength-based strategies, we can nurture a workforce that is innovative, creative, feels valued and maximizes productivity.
I did my doctorate whilst working full time at a sixth form college and understand the pressures and challenges associated with studying at this level whilst fulfilling the duties of work and maintaining work/life balance. Having gone through this challenging journey, my courses and coaching are specifically designed to optimise personal potential, maintain motivation, resulting in a highly productive and happy organisation.
Being dyspraxic myself, I always try to grow by going outside my comfort zone. I'm a paddleboard racing athlete, competing in competitions across the country and in the top right photo, I had just walked over the roof of the 02 building in London. I'm also an avid outdoor pursuits and dog lover.
